Rebel XSi - Great Step Up From S3 Is
The Rebel XSi is a big step up from the high end point and shoot. The learning curve is pretty close to moving the "S3 IS" to the Rebel XSi. Some functions are actually easier to use than the Rebel XSi the S3.
The camera size and weight is still reasonable, I wear the Rebel XSi, coupled with a Sigma 18-200mm zoom lens, in an M-Rock Glacier bag attached to the handlebars of my bike. Some of my photos can be found on Flickr, where I go with the name "Versa Geek"
Fair warning to those moving from "point and shoot" on DSLR (Applies to most DSLR's not just this one): Although the 18-55mm lens is ideal for macro shots, when you're used to 10-12x zoom on a point and shoot, you need to buy an additional lens will cost between $ 500 - $ 1000 +. You will also want an extra battery pack (~ $ 50), a 58mm UV Haze filter on your lens (~ $ 40 +) to protect a sturdy camera (~ $ 80 +) And a good tripod (~ $ 120 +).
Rebel XSi - Upgrade to XSi or 40D? Went to Rebel XSi
I have a long-time photography. Back in the 80s I came in 35mm cameras with a Canon AE1 and A1. I then bought a 35mm Rebel and used for many years (still have it). A few years ago I bought a digital Rebel XT, which was soon extended to an XTi. Both cameras were great and I never had a problem with one of them. Since most upgrades go though, the newer model new useful things that the newer camera-made that much better than the old.
I'm not going all "the camera does this and not that" kind of things everyone has written letter. You can to Canon's website for all specs. I am going to say that I bought many things from Amazon over the years and never had a single problem. I decided to go to my local camera store for this purchase though, only because I wanted the camera to handle and play with it a while before making a decision.
I was torn by a upgrade to the Rebel XSi or 450D. I had heard many rumors that the 40d would soon be replaced by a newer, more advanced model. At the time of this writing, has not yet experienced. After handling both, and play with them for several hours in my local store (I think I rode the seller's crazy!) I have this to say:
There is no doubt that the 450D is a larger, more robust camera appear. It is too big for me. It is not much heavier, but the grip shape and are larger. The processer and guts mostly the same in both cameras and some of the features of the Rebel XSi are actually more advanced (for it is a newer model). The viewfinder of the XSi Rebel was brighter and sharper in the Rebel XSi and I liked the overall feel better (perhaps something to do with the XTi with a family). The overall sound of the camera function sounds great. Very professional.
The 40d really sounded too robotic to me when the shutter was used, whether the flash fired. The Live View function on the Rebel XSi is actually an additional option that the 40D is not that ideal for me because I really enjoy macro photography. More importantly, the camera is easy to use and very user friendly. The manual includes detailed is free, but I would still recommend buying a good book on the aftermarket Rebel XSi to really know. I really could not see spending $ 400 more for the 40D. I would rather put towards a nice lens.
Eventually I decided to spend less money and a great camera that makes me happy for a At that time few years have I'm sure the next latest and greatest camera already on sale and I will be ready for a new one!
If you're in the market for a camera that will do whatever you want to do, get the Rebel XSi. Whether you're an anchor, pro or just a family looking for beautiful pictures of their children and events to take, this camera suit your needs. With the right lenses, this camera will be magazine quality photos. If you can not afford to get the Rebel XSi, also takes great pictures. And if you have enough money to burn and just want a bigger camera, the 40D is no slouch.
